Breast Enhancement Surgery in Clearwater, Trinity, Lutz, Tampa, and Surrounding Communities – What to Expect During your Recovery

Once you’ve decided to have breast enhancement surgery, it’s important to know what to expect during your recovery. While it’s always best to speak with your surgeon about every aspect of the procedure, including appropriate expectations, possible risks and side effects, and the healing process, seeking out information on your own can also be beneficial. By learning a bit about a typical recovery following breast enhancement surgery, you can determine what types of questions you may want to ask your surgeon in relation to your unique situation.

One of the first things you may learn while researching on your own is that immediately following your surgery, you’ll be fitted with a special surgical bra which will compress your breasts to help with swelling. Swelling around the breasts typically lasts through the first 2 to 3 weeks following breast enhancement surgery. This will be most noticeable during the first week, but using cold compresses can help. You’ll also want to sleep on your back with your head elevated, as this can reduce swelling and aid in the healing process. Any bruising and discoloration you experience during this time will likely disappear a bit more quickly than the swelling.

To remove any excess fluid, your surgeon will place special drains through tiny incisions in your breasts. These drains are typically removed within two to three days following your breast enhancement procedure. During the first week, your breasts will feel especially sore. Your skin will take some time to adjust to your increased breast volume, so it may feel stretched and tight. Your doctor will likely prescribe medication to help you manage the pain during the first week of recovery.

You will be able to return to work about one week after your breast enlargement surgery, and most breast enhancement patients can engage in light exercise after two to three weeks. It’s best to wait at least 6 months before resuming your regular exercise routine, until your breasts are nearly fully healed and all swelling has disappeared. At this time, your breasts will also look and feel more natural than they did immediately following your surgery.
